Grouping For Looks is a page-by-page retelling of the Looking For Group saga through the lens of a mirror universe where Cale is a goateed tyrant and Richard is a holy soul trying to set him on a good path.
INT. TAVERN – DAY
Benny sits cross legged on a pile of unconscious thugs from the bar fight. Runes on the floor surround the man mound drawn in blood like someone cut themselves trying to use a broken Spirograph.
RICHARD
Take your time, bloodmaiden.
Richard eyes the scene skeptically. Benny reaches out to him.
BENNY
Ready. Hand your friend over.
CALE
Friend‽ We’re not friends-
RICHARD
Yet!
CALE
He’s the one who incinerated me!
RICHARD
It’s not that simple. Orphans were involved.
BENNY
Not sure what I did that made you think I care. How many limbs would your friend like?
CALE
Stop calling us-
Wait, what was that about limbs?
BENNY
I am creating a new body for you. Why settle for the same shape as your old one?
Richard imagines Cale as some kind of elven human centipede. There’s fire all around him because why not?
RICHARD
Common decency?
A wild dagger appears in Richard’ chest. It’s not very effective…
CALE
Can you outline my best options and their defining qualities?
RICHARD
I hate to be a bother because I am fine, but someone is throwing daggers in our general direction.
Benny glances over her shoulder and gasps.
BENNY
Aelloon!
Aelloon, looking exactly the same as regular continuity Aelloon, stands in the entry of the tavern, flanked mercenaries of various ancestries. Remember the big deal I’ve been making about how the thugs in the bar aren’t all human? Up to now, that actually hasn’t been a big deal. The fact that these mercs are also all human? I’m sure that’s also fine…
AELLOON
Where’s my son, Benny?
BENNY
You know the answer, Aelloon.
AELLOON
And you know I don’t accept that answer.
Aelloon draws his sword. More mercenaries pile in behind him. Richard leans into Benny’s ear.
RICHARD
Psssst. If you’re hiding his son, I think you should give him back.
