GFL – Page 0033
Grouping For Looks is a page-by-page retelling of the Looking For Group saga through the lens of a mirror universe where Cale is a goateed tyrant and Richard is a holy soul trying to set him on a good path.
EXT. CASTLE – NIGHT
The light of a campfire lights up the ramshackle castle in which’s court the light was lit. The splintered drawbridge barely supports itself above a dry moat. The tower’s roof yawns with a hole so large only the most incompetent princess could be imprisoned within.
You might be thinking “What is this castle? Did I miss a page? What about the trolls and gnomes and all that?” Welcome to issue 2, already in progress!
Krunch stands on a notebook, dancing across a page with this hoofingers wrapped around a bamboo quill as tall as him.
I spend my days working hard on the go, but the hands on the clock keeping spinning too slow. I can’t wait to be alone with my baby tonight.
INT. CASTLE – NIGHT
Krunch cringes at a sudden, shrill noise.
Why is there an infant in here?
Richard holds a crying baby up in one hand, palming Cale’s face with the other as the elf reaches for the child.
Sooba is a picky eater!
What kind of monster eats children?
Does it have to be a human child? They’re so noisy. The forests are teeming with bears, why not capture a cub for Sooba?
I would normally applaud trying to find a compromise, but the middle ground between “eating a baby” and “not eating a baby” is still far too close to “eating a baby”.
So much for the tolerant left.
Cale and Sooba leave Richard with the crying baby. Richard pulls out a bonnet made of pressed flowers.
I made you a hat.
The gift calms the baby. That, and the break from impending doom.
