GFL – Page 0014
Grouping For Looks is a page-by-page retelling of the Looking For Group saga through the lens of a mirror universe where Cale is a goateed tyrant and Richard is a holy soul trying to set him on a good path.
EXT. MOUNTAIN – DAY
Richard inspects the mountain into which his companions disappeared.
A mountain that eats people.
Not on my watch!
Low on mana but high on righteous indignation, Richard uses a small sliver of magic to slice off a stalagmite. He hoists the chunk over his head charges.
The stalagmite shatters, taking a chunk of mountain face with it, revealing a hidden chamber in which huddle Cale, Benny, Krunch, and Sooba. None of them are happy to see him.
You’ve done to hiding place what you’ve done to the fun in my life since I met you.
Benny holds Krunch in a green bubble of healing.
If you might, Priestess, I could use some healing when you are free.
Why would I do that?
Richard pulls up his shirt, revealing a huge gnarly gap in his torso. Benny looks at it expectantly.
How many arrows do you think I can block now?
Benny resentfully slips her hand into the gap, careful not to touch the sides. She withdraws a glowing hand, pulling a necromantic goop out along with it. She drops the spell and the goop snaps into place with a satisfying flurple.
Her job done, she turns away from the aggravating undead, and right into the disapproving sightline of her adopted father.
We’ve fled in fear because of you, Gid. When can our cowardice end?
When the cows come home?
Cale squares up and basks in Krunch’s glower.
Ooh, a cave!
