Friday Lart – The Bat Came Back

Fridays, we open the Larchives, Lar’s extensive archive of art work oddities, and share a few pieces.

Meet Batman.

My family got Batman in 2017, a few months after we had my second daughter. Batman’s age surprises people. For one thing, 2017 was four years ago. For another, they’re impressed our Guinea pig reached four years old. Sure, that’s unusual, but our daughter whose a few months older than Batman can play video games. If we put a controller in Batman’s cage, she’d (yes, Batman’s a lady) eat off the rubber bits and probably couldn’t make a single platform jump.

My older daughter named Batman in the most “I love lamp” way possible. She came downstairs with a snake stuffed animal and saw Santa left us two new furry family members. She named the first Snakey, then looked around the room. After spotting the program for Batman live sitting on my shelf, she named the second Guinea pig Batman.

I bring up Batman the lady Guinea pig because Lar recently immortalized her in my latest avatar.

There she is! That reminds me, we should go boating.

Now, normally for Lar’s charity avatars, I recommend you get your face and be happy with it. With this theme, though, I want you to consider sharing the spotlight with your fur babies and scale-dren. It does the usual $40/face rate. If you’re surprised by that, Lar explains:

“An animal likeness is sometimes harder because the references get more complex with body/fur markings.”

And Lar’s right. I’ve had friends illustrate Batman before, and they don’t usually get the black and white layout of her as accurate as Lar did.

So let’s say you want to support the MS Society and get your own Cat Came Back Avatar, either with or without your pet. What do you do?

You Do This

In homage to the Cordell Barker animated short (itself based on The Cat Came Back song by Harry S. Miller), Lar captures the wavey, exaggerated character designs of the manic humans, as well as the more angular, orderly animal design style.

Here’s How:

From now until January 31st, 2022, donate $40 to the MS Society and Lar will make you a The Cat Came Cat style caricature avatar. If you’d like to include a pet, or another human, Lar asks for an additional $40 donation per additional face.

  1. Go to https://tinyurl.com/mscure2021
  2. Donate $40 or more for an avatar, plus $40 for every extra face.
  3. Email your donation confirmation to [email protected] along with a current selfie and any requests.
  4. Lar will email you a high res JPEG to print and a low res jpeg for social media.

All avatars will be delivered on or before February 4th, 2022
