Friday Larchive – Larney Tunes

Fridays, we open the Larchives, Lar’s extensive archive of art work oddities, and share a few pieces. Sometimes there will be a theme, or a reason behind the choices. Other times there will be none.

Today’s theme is Lar Looney Tunes artwork!

Why?

Two reasons.

Hitting The Heights

First, Steve Bennett’s latest Coffessions of a Comic Book Guy column, That Oscar-Winning Rabbit, points out that the new Looney Tunes Cartoons is “the Most Popular Show on HBO Max.” It made me realize that I might have taken the brilliance of Looney Tunes for granted.

The Looney Tunes episodes I watched as a kid were 20 or 30 years older than most of the shows I watched. And yet they amused me and held my attention as well as anything specifically designed to appeal to me. No one in 30 years improved upon the Looney Tunes formula. Including Warner Brothers. As the original writers, directors, and voice cast aged out of their roles, their replacements tended to be imitators more than innovators.

What I Tawt I Taw

After reading Bennett’s article, I saw Lar post an editorial cartoon featuring Donald Trump calling Yosemite Sam a Semite.

There we go, I thought. I have my theme.

Except Lar didn’t illustrate that particular piece. Ed Hall did.

Oh well. Disregarding the winding road that got us here, here we are!
